🕉️ Tirumala Weekly Sevas Guide
Experience the Divine Rituals of Lord Venkateswara – Monday to Friday
Every Day is a Festival Day in Tirumala
At Sri Venkateswara Temple, each weekday brings a unique sacred ritual where Lord Venkateswara blesses devotees through special sevas. These weekly pujas have been performed for centuries, offering devotees an intimate spiritual experience beyond regular darshan.
Limited tickets are available for each seva – allowing only a select number of devotees to witness these divine rituals up close.
Visesha Pooja – विशेष पूजा
After the second bell, the sacred utsava vigraha is brought to the mantapa for the magnificent Chaturdasa Kalasa Visesha Puja – a ritual involving 14 sacred vessels. With Sri Malayappa Swami’s permission, archakas perform ankurarpana and punyaha vachanam. As the Panchasuktas (Sri, Bhu, Nila, Purusha, and Narayana Suktas) are chanted, Tirumanjanam is performed with seven vessels containing gingelly oil, milk, curd, ghee, akshatas, darbha, and panchagavya, while seven vessels hold pure Sudhodaka.
Ashtadala Pada Padmaradhana – अष्टदल पद पद्मराधन
This beautiful seva was introduced in 1984 during TTD’s Golden Jubilee Year after a Muslim devotee offered 108 gold lotuses to Lord Srinivasa. The archaka offers dhupa and dipa to the main deity, then recites 108 divine names of the Lord. With each name, one golden lotus is placed at the Lord’s holy feet. After archana to the Mula Virat, archana is offered to Goddesses Lakshmi and Padmavati. Arjita ticket holders are seated in the Antrala corridor between Kulasekhara Padi and Bangaru Vakili.
Sahasra Kalasabhishekam – सहस्र कलशाभिषेकम्
This grand abhishekam is offered to Sri Bhoga Srinivasa Murthi (the silver replica of Mula Virat), along with processional deities of Sri Malayappa Swamy and his two consorts, and Sri Viswaksena. Performed after the second bell at Bangaru Vakili, the Bhoga Srinivasa Murthi is symbolically connected to the Mula Virat inside the sanctum with a thin silk rope – one end tied to Bhoga Srinivasa’s feet, the other placed near the Kathithasta of Mula Virat, establishing that the puja offered represents worship to the main deity itself.
Tiruppavada Seva & Poolangi Seva
Tiruppavada Seva: After morning pooja, the Mula Virat is divested of all ornaments and flowers, draped only in dhoti and uttareeyam. The Thirunaman Kaappu and Kasturi are reduced, revealing the unique Netra Darshan – the rare opportunity to see the complete divine eyes of the Lord, which are usually half-covered by the wide namam on other days. Annakutotsavam (heaps of tamarind rice offering) is also performed.
Poolangi Seva: Following temple purification rituals, the Moola Virat is adorned with a velvet gown from crown to feet, then exclusively decorated with flower garlands. This ancient tradition of flower adornment is mentioned in Silappadikaram, the Tamil classic from 756 A.D.
Abhishekam & Special Sevas – अभिषेकम्
The most ancient Arjitha Seva at Lord Venkateswara’s hill shrine. After Suprabhatha Seva, regular Thomala and Archana are performed in privacy, followed by Srivari Abhishekam. The sacred bath begins with water from Akasa Ganga Theertham, then milk, Suddhodakam, chandanam, and precious scented articles like powdered pachcha karpooram, saffron paste, and drops of civet oil brought in silver vessels. Multiple seva options are available on Fridays.
