తిరుమల చరిత్ర:
పురాణాల ప్రకారం, తిరుమల కొండలు అసలు “ఆది వరాహ క్షేత్రం”. హిరణ్యాక్షుడిని సంహరించి భూమిని రక్షించిన తర్వాత, శ్రీమహావిష్ణువు వరాహ రూపంలో ఇక్కడే కొలువుదీరాడు. కలియుగంలో శ్రీవేంకటేశ్వరస్వామి వారు భూలోకానికి వచ్చినప్పుడు, నివాసం ఉండటానికి వరాహస్వామి వారిని అనుమతి కోరారు. దానికి అంగీకరించిన వరాహస్వామి వారు ఒక షరతు విధించారు. దాని ప్రకారం, తిరుమలకు వచ్చే భక్తులు ముందుగా వరాహస్వామి వారిని దర్శించుకుని, ఆ తర్వాతే వేంకటేశ్వరస్వామిని దర్శించుకోవాలి. అందుకే నేటికీ భక్తులు పుష్కరిణి తీరాన ఉన్న వరాహస్వామిని దర్శించుకోవడం ఆచారంగా వస్తోంది.
శ్రీమహాలక్ష్మి విడిచి వెళ్లడంతో ఆమెను వెతుకుతూ శ్రీమహావిష్ణువు భూలోకానికి చేరుకున్నాడు. శేషాచల కొండల్లో శ్రీనివాసుడిగా నివసిస్తూ, ఆకాశరాజు కుమార్తె అయిన పద్మావతి దేవిని వివాహం చేసుకున్నాడు. ఈ వివాహం కోసం కుబేరుడి వద్ద అప్పు తీసుకున్న స్వామివారు, కలియుగాంతం వరకు భక్తులు సమర్పించే కానుకల ద్వారా ఆ అప్పు తీరుస్తూ ఇక్కడే ఉండిపోతానని మొక్కుకున్నారు. భక్తుల కష్టాలను తీరుస్తూ, వారిని రక్షించే కలియుగ ప్రత్యక్ష దైవంగా వేంకటేశ్వరస్వామి తిరుమల ఏడుకొండలపై కొలువై ఉన్నారు.
