Tirumala Introduces Modern QR Code System for Managing Pilgrims’ Footwear

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has launched a new, convenient system to manage the footwear of millions of pilgrims visiting the holy shrine. Taking inspiration from efficient airport luggage systems, TTD has introduced dedicated QR code-based footwear counters to solve a long-standing issue for devotees.

The system was officially inaugurated at the Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba Annaprasadam Complex (MTVAC) in Tirumala by TTD Additional EO, Sri Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary.

👟 How the New QR Code Footwear System Works

The process is designed to be simple, secure, and fast for every devotee:

  1. Handover: Pilgrims leave their footwear at the designated counter.
  2. Receive QR Slip: They instantly receive a printed slip with a unique QR code. This slip contains complete details like the number of items, size, rack number, and exact storage location.
  3. Retrieval: After darshan, devotees return to the counter, scan their QR code slip.
  4. Quick Return: The system instantly displays the precise storage location, allowing staff to retrieve the footwear within seconds.

✅ Benefits and Impact of the New Initiative

This modern system addresses several key challenges:

  • Solves a Major Problem: Previously, only about 20-30% of devotees could retrieve their footwear due to mismanagement and piles of shoes. Now, the retrieval rate has jumped to nearly 99%.
  • Saves Time: Devotees no longer waste time searching through large, unorganized piles of footwear.
  • Reduces Loss: The organized system has virtually eliminated the loss of footwear, saving pilgrims inconvenience and cost.
  • Enhanced Experience: It contributes to a smoother, more hassle-free pilgrimage experience.

📈 Rollout and Implementation

The project started as a pilot at the Vaikuntam Queue Complex 2. Due to its “excellent results,” TTD has now expanded it across eight key locations in Tirumala to serve pilgrims better. This initiative is being implemented as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts of Coromandel International Limited.

This innovative step is part of TTD’s continuous efforts to integrate technology for improving pilgrim facilities and management at Tirumala.
